FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

We get asked a lot of questions around our industry in general, as well as what makes us unique. And given how things are moving so quickly in our space, we thought we’d answer some of your favourite questions right here.

We of course still love a chat, so please feel free to get in touch with any and all of your questions.

What does Watchpost do?

Watchpost is a creative video production and post-production agency based in Adelaide, Australia. We help brands, organisations, and filmmakers tell their stories through strategy, production, editing, colour, VFX, sound, and final delivery.

How is Watchpost different from a marketing agency?

Unlike a traditional ad agency that manages broad campaigns across many mediums, we specialise in video. Our focus is narrative-driven, cinematic storytelling—whether that’s a brand film, corporate campaign, or feature project. We also support clients with copywriting, strategy, and media buy when needed, and many with strong in-house marketing teams see us as their creative partner for the specialised creative heavy lifting.

What services do you offer?

Our in-house team covers the full production pipeline:

  • Creative and content strategy

  • Scriptwriting and copywriting

  • Full-service production and line production

  • Commercials and brand films

  • Social media content

  • Offline and online editing

  • Colour grading

  • Animation and motion design

  • Visual effects

  • Sound editing and finishing

Do you work internationally?

Yes! While we’re based in Adelaide, we regularly deliver projects across Australia and abroad. We’ve filmed in over 25 countries on six continents, working across all budgets and conditions.

What is your production process?

We guide projects from idea to delivery:

  1. Discovery — goals, audience, scope and budget expectations

  2. Creative development — scripting and planning

  3. Production — filming with our crew

  4. Post-production — editing, grading, sound, animation, and VFX

  5. Delivery — files optimised for cinema, TV, online and socials

How much does a video cost?

Budgets vary by scale and are influenced by factors like locations, shoot days, crew size, and post needs. Simple social pieces may cost a few hundred to a few thousand dollars, while high-end brand films or broadcast projects can reach six figures. We work across all budget ranges and always provide clear estimates tailored to your goals. What kinds of clients do you work with?

What kinds of clients do you work with?

We partner with not-for-profits, SMEs, corporates, ad agencies, filmmakers, and local, state, and federal government agencies. Recent work includes campaigns for Camp Quality, Codan, Minelab, Flinders University, Consunet, and Adelaide Primary Health Network.

What industries do you specialise in?

Since 2012, we’ve had the privilege of working across a broad cross-section of industries for corporate, government, and not-for-profit clients. We’ve developed particularly deep expertise in:

  • Higher education

  • Technology and manufacturing

  • Large infrastructure projects

  • Emerging technologies and defence

  • Primary industries (mining and agriculture)

  • Health

  • Tourism

  • Government

Do you handle post-production only?

Yes. Many clients engage us solely for editing, colour grading, sound design, VFX, or finishing. We collaborate smoothly with external directors, agencies, and production companies, and can plug into any workflow.

Can you help with social media content?

Absolutely. We design content for each platform and deliver multiple aspect ratios, cut-downs, captions, and superless versions to maximise reach.

What makes Watchpost unique?

We combine the heart of storytellers with the strategic thinking of marketers and the precision of post-production specialists. With a nimble team, years of business experience, and a film-inspired approach, we create work that’s beautiful, purposeful, and effective — from 15-second reels to long-form series and features.

What’s the difference between a videographer and a production company?

Videographers are great for smaller projects that just need a shooter. As a full-service production company led by a veteran producer and director team, we’re versed in more complex methodologies and needs. Having a dedicated director and cinematographer enables a more bespoke approach and closer attention to on-screen talent (including coaching). We can often work faster and achieve a higher level of creative and technical quality. In short, for simple jobs, a videographer is perfect; for complex projects or those with multiple stakeholders, a team usually delivers better results.

The good news: we do both — including affordable videography services backed by our broader expertise.

Can I get access to the raw files?

Yes. Our position is that clients own the rights to their raw footage. That said, raw or log formats (often .mxf) are large and not immediately usable for most clients.

A finished video is also more than just raw shots. Colour grading, motion design, animation, and graphic elements all combine to create the final polished work. For this reason, if you’d like an alternative edit, it’s usually faster and more cost-effective for us to handle it — which is why we value long-term client relationships.

If handing over raw material is required, we’re open to it. In most cases we recommend sub-clipped, LUT-applied proxy files, which are ready to use in most applications. Preparing and delivering these takes time and resources, so a fee applies.

Do you create AI videos?

Yes. We’re passionate about emerging technology and have been building generative AI into our workflow for over two years. In August 2025 we created our first full product video using only AI. Speak to us if you’d like to explore this exciting new production workflow.

I’ve written a book or a script, can you help me get it on Netflix?

We get asked this often! The reality is that developing and producing a feature film or TV series is usually a five-year journey.

At Watchpost we focus on service work, while our sister company Arterial Films develops, packages, and produces long-form projects. Because of the resources involved, we’re selective about what we take on. Arterial doesn’t typically read unsolicited material, but if a producer or credited writer submits work, we’ll always consider it.

For projects outside our curated slate, Arterial offers Executive Producer services on a fee-for-service basis. These provide mentoring, coaching, guidance, and introductions to distributors, sales agents, streamers, broadcasters, and financiers to help move a project through development, packaging, and financing.

To fast-track your project, it’s advisable to prepare key market-ready elements such as:

  • A script

  • A lookbook or visual treatment

  • An investor deck

  • A budget and finance plan

  • Any committed finance

  • Key creatives attached

The more of these you have in place, the more attractive your project becomes to investors and buyers. Arterial can assist with building and strengthening each of these elements.

If you think your project is a good fit, or you’re interested in Executive Producer services, get in touch today.
